Career Coach and Internship Manager

The Career Coach and Internship Manager is a full-time position, reporting to the Director of the Career Center, and providing individual and group career coaching for students and alumni, helping them throughout the career development process from building self awareness to exploration of opportunities to effectively landing jobs. This individual will also manage the logistics of Luther’s internship program and provides administrative support to the office and Career Center Director.

Career Coach Duties

  • Conduct one-on-one career coaching sessions with undergraduate students and alumni
  • Facilitate engaging presentations in undergraduate classrooms and workshops
  • Track engagement and think creatively about how to increase interactions with students
  • Contribute toward metrics tracking and report writing, ensuring we’re data informed
  • Assist students and alumni with graduate school interviews, job search, and career decision-making through in-person, telephone, or email interactions
  • Collaborate with the Employer Relations Coordinator to identify students for specific opportunities. This will include having a keen awareness of students’ interests, skills, and career goals as well as being acutely aware of the needs of Employers.

Internship Program

  • Serve as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and employers in the administration and continued improvement of application/evaluation process for internships and other applied learning programs (research, clinicals, practicums, work study, volunteer service, etc.)
  • Manage administrative process for students applying for internships including tracking student paperwork and evaluations within Handshake
  • In collaboration with the Alumni/Development Office, initiate, develop, market and coordinate the J-Term and Summer Alumni Internship and Project/Skill Development Programs for students, faculty, and alumni
  • Assist with data collection for applied learning experiences for reports and communication tools
  • Foster good relationships among community agencies and businesses, coordinating the development of internship and other experiential learning opportunities for students and alumni
  • Work with Director to help manage internship/experiential learning funds. Coordinate the marketing, application and dispersal of funds for the Internship Funding Program, upon final approval of the Career Center Director
  • Work with the Director to create a reflective curriculum for students throughout their internship/applied learning experience

Career Center Office

  • Provide administrative support for Career Center office and Director, as needed
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably from a liberal arts college; Masters in Student Personnel Administration, Leadership Studies, Counseling, or Higher Education, preferred
  • Strong counseling skills with the ability to understand college student needs and concerns
  • Experience in career counseling, experiential learning and/or program development and implementation required
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build rapport and work successfully with students, faculty, staff and employers
  • Ability to organize, develop, market and present programs and career related activities. Strong organization and analytical skills
  • At least two years of experience as part of a student-facing program, preferably at a private residential liberal arts college.
